WHY BALLON D'OR WINNER ADA HEGERBERG WILL NOT BE PLAYING AT THE WORLD CUP.

“The Heroine in Budapest” fighting for equality in Football Female football’s greatest showpiece event will kick off in seven days’ time and a certain Norwegian star will sadly not be taking part, not because she isn’t good enough(in fact, she is officially the best player in female football) but because she has chosen to make a stance and fight, and fighting she has been doing. Ada Martine Stolsmo Hegerberg will not be at the Women's World Cup this summer in France because she walked away from Norway's national team after growing increasingly frustrated with its set-up and what she called a "lack of respect" for female players. Hegerberg has worked her way to the top of the game, and with the audience and attention that has brought her, she has decided to make a change and speak out for female football. In truth, who better to point out the growing divide between male and female football than Hegerberg. She is at the moment a household name in the game, she is the

SHE IS AT THE HELM!!!

Juliet has been passionate about leadership since she was a child. Her parents raised her to be vocal and to see herself as capable of organizing people and leading them with goals and visions that helped bring change in society. In the earlier years of primary school, their teacher said that whoever scored the highest would be made class monitor. Juliet worked hard and was best that term. When it was time to reward her efforts, instead of making her monitor. She made her assist the boy who had just come after her in grades. She was upset and went to report to the headteacher. But her headteacher said, "Men were natural leaders. So, it has to be this way." She kept pondering why educational institution which is supposed to be the hallmark of enlightenment fuels gender inequality. In Primary five, Juliet worked really hard and was elected as the school's head girl. The boy who was given her monitor position by virtue of his gender was elected head boy. After the

It’s France 2019, the 8 th edition of the FIFA Women’s World Cup which is the biggest stage in the world when it comes to Female football. Female football doesn’t get as much coverage as the Male version and quite a number of people aren’t even aware of the tournament coming up this summer. This is why I have decided to bring it closer to people’s attention. Women play football too and very well at that! It is 14 days countdown to the tournament. This summer’s competition will be kicking off on June 7 th with the final game scheduled for 7 th of July at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais, France’s largest capacity football stadium.  It will feature 24 teams divided into six groups and 52 matches in all. Traditional heavyweights Germany and the United States Women National Team will be looking to continue their dominance while outsiders like England and Brazil will once again go in search of a maiden success in the event. The United States Women National Team are heavy and odds-on favorit

MEN ON BOARD

After second semester examinations, Adeola came home to announce that she had a C in Maths. Temitope, her younger brother, shrugged. "Why didn't you do better? You were so good in Maths. You even got an A1 in WAEC!"  He shrieked. "It's normal," Adeola said, "Aunty Callista said as we go higher, it would difficult for us girls to understand very complex things because we are not supposed to do hard subjects... " Their father walked into the parlour just in time to hear Adeola's bit of the conversation and cut her off, "Deola! What did you just say?" Adeola bit her lip. Their father never asked them to repeat any statement except he was furious about it! That it would be difficult to understand complex things as girls grow older," she said "This would be the last time your mouth will ever say such!" Father thundered. "Yes Sir!" Adeola replied, sober. "I don't know who gave you that ide

Women Kicking Through Football's Glass Ceilings

It is 21 days countdown to Female World Cup but the hype is quite down. The answer is not far-fetched. This is female soccer usually under-valued, under-funded and under the radar.   I saw Germany’s Women’s World Cup Advert ( https://tinyurl.com/y5nrmzmk ) online on women players and it further resonated my concerns. Here are the words ‘Do you know my name? How about mine? Didn’t think so. We play for a nation that doesn’t even know our names. But do you know we have been European champions three times, right? No? that’s because it was eight times. For our first title, we were given a tea set. Since we have started, we haven’t just fought against opponents. We fought against prejudice. ‘Women are there just to have babies’ ‘They belong in the laundry room’ ‘It’s like watching amateurs, in slow motion’ But you know what….. We don’t have balls, but we know how to use them We are the ones with make up on our faces We like to wear high heels and knee
